About the Role:
In this role, you will install, commission, service, and maintain VRF HVAC systems and associated dehumidifier units to ensure optimal performance and comfort for clients. You will work both independently and as part of a team to deliver projects on time and to specification, with a strong focus on diagnostics and system optimisation. Your work will directly impact system reliability, energy efficiency, and customer satisfaction across a varied portfolio of sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and commission VRF HVAC systems, including indoor and outdoor units, branch selector boxes, and associated controls.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose VRF system issues, including controls, components, and communication errors, using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Read and interpret HVAC electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to perform accurate low-voltage and control wiring for VRF systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on VRF systems and dehumidifier units, including cleaning, inspections, component checks, and performance verification.
- Execute refrigerant handling tasks such as charging, recovery, and leak detection in compliance with EPA 608 and company standards.
- Carry out brazing, soldering, and piping work on refrigerant lines to ensure leak-free, code-compliant installations.
- Integrate VRF systems with building automation systems (BAS), verifying proper communication, control sequences, and system operation.
- Document work performed, including service reports, commissioning data, and maintenance records, and communicate findings to supervisors and clients as required.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a VRF HVAC Technician with hands-on installation, commissioning, and service of VRF systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for VRF controls, components, communication networks, and system performance issues.
- Ability to read and interpret HVAC electrical schematics, control diagrams, and manufacturer installation manuals.
- Proficient in low-voltage and control wiring for VRF and related HVAC systems.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on VRF indoor/outdoor units and dehumidifier units.
- Familiarity with BAS/VRF integration concepts and working with building automation interfaces.
- Skilled in the safe use of HVAC diagnostic tools, including manifold gauges, multimeters, micron gauges, and leak detectors.
- Solid understanding of HVAC safety standards, codes, and local regulations, with a commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work in a performance-based environment that values good character and accountability.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with multiple VRF manufacturers’ platforms and proprietary control systems.
- Background in advanced dehumidification systems and humidity control strategies.
- Exposure to commissioning reports, start-up documentation, and system optimisation projects.
- Basic networking knowledge related to BAS and VRF communication protocols.
- Experience mentoring junior technicians or serving as a lead on installation or service projects.
Qualifications:
- EPA 608 certification (Universal preferred) for refrigerant handling.
- HVAC technical diploma, certificate, or completion of an accredited HVAC training program.
- State or local HVAC license where applicable or ability to obtain if required.
- Manufacturer-specific VRF training or certifications preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
