Job description: Licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Location: Western Pennsylvania (primarily Pittsburgh region + surrounding areas)
Job Summary
We’re seeking a dependable, licensed Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to manage multiple small treatment facilities across Western Pennsylvania. This is a mobile, field-based role suited for a hands-on operator who enjoys autonomy, problem-solving, and keeping essential community systems running safely and efficiently. You’ll be responsible for plant operations, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance while working independently with strong support from a remote infrastructure team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment systems, including activated sludge, extended aeration, and packaged units. Licensed
- Perform on-site sampling, water testing, data logging, and system adjustments to maintain compliance.
- Troubleshoot and repair pumps, blowers, valves, controls, and related treatment equipment.
- Maintain accurate logs, compliance reports, chemical inventories, and maintenance documentation.
- Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and treatment upsets as needed.
- Participate in the rotating on-call schedule with backup support available.
- Coordinate with vendors/contractors for complex repairs or specialty services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Active Pennsylvania Class C Wastewater Operator License (subclasses 1, 2, and/or 4).
- Out-of-state licensed operators encouraged to apply (reciprocity supported).
- Minimum 3 years of wastewater plant operation or utility maintenance experience.
- Strong understanding of wastewater processes and environmental compliance.
- Ability to work independently across multiple locations within driving radius.
- Able to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.
