    Senior Mobile Crane Technician

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

    Job Type: Full-time

    Expected Hours: 40 – 50 hours per week

    Work Location: In person – Aberdeen, Maryland

    Schedule: May require overtime and overnight travel (12–16 weeks/year)

    Position Summary

    As a Senior Mobile Crane Technician you are entrusted with maintaining the integrity, performance, and safety of essential mobile crane systems. You will collaborate with government personnel, performing preventive maintenance, repairs, and rigorous inspections to uphold mission-critical readiness.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Perform all tasks in compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations (OSHA, ASME, ANSI, NAVFAC P-307).
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair crane mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and structuralsystems.
    • Conduct inspections according to OEM, OSHA, and NAVFAC standards.
    • Communicate effectively with internal teams and customer personnel.
    • Maintain accountability and condition of assigned tools and equipment.
    • Generate accurate documentation for estimates and service records.
    • Mechanical: Diagnose and repair systems such as the chassis and undercarriage frame, wheels, outriggers, boom system, hoist and winch systems, slew systems including slewing ring bearings and drive, hook block, wire rope, sheaves, counterweight system, braking system, telescopic booms and extension and retraction cylinders, and the operator’s cap structure and control mechanics.
    • Electrical: Diagnose and repair components such as the power supply system, control system, safety and monitoring systems, motor control circuits, lighting system, telematics, and hydraulic system controls, including solenoid valves, sensors, and transducers.
    • Hydraulic: Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, and cylinders.
    • Structural: Diagnose and repair components such as chassis frame and outriggers, upperworks turntable and cab, boom sections, counterweight blocks, and A-frame and boom supports.
    • Troubleshoot commercial components using OEM manuals for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components.
    • Develop solutions and estimates for electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural component level repairs.
    • Gather the necessary data for senior personnel to develop estimates for major repairs,overhauls, and crane replacements.
    • Overnight travel required approximately 12–16 weeks annually.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED; technical certifications preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years’ crane repair/inspection experience.
    • Experience with Grove, Linkbelt, Terex, and other OEMs.
    • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and PLCs.
    • Familiarity with hydraulic and structural systems.
    • Must be computer literate and able to work independently.
    • Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record required.
    • CDL Class A and OEM certifications (Preferred).
    • Willingness to work at heights.
    • Must pass a background check.
    • Must pass a physical.

    Physical Requirements

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

    • Regularly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • Work at heights and in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
    • Perform repetitive motions, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
    • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (hard hats, gloves, etc.).
    • Operate power tools and diagnostic equipment.
    • Drive long distances to remote worksites.
    • Maintain physical and mental stamina for demanding, detail-oriented tasks.

    FLSA Classification

    This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
